Bachelor of Visual Arts Degree Program

A visual art degree can prepare you for creative practice, freelance work, studio roles, and further study. Depending on your specialization, you may build careers as a painter, sculptor, animator, storyboard artist, modeller, compositor, concept artist, art educator, gallery professional, or visual content creator. Strong portfolios, technical skills, and professional presentation are important when pursuing these opportunities.

Painting and sculpture students may work as professional artists, assistants, educators, or gallery and museum professionals. Animation and VFX students may seek roles such as 2D or 3D animator, modeller, rigger, texture artist, compositor, storyboard artist, or lighting artist. The undergraduate visual arts degree pathways presented here are four-year, full-time, on-campus programs. BFA in Painting and BFA in Sculpture begin with a common foundation year before students continue with their specialization. The B.Design Animation & VFX program also runs for four years and covers the complete animation and visual effects pipeline. Academic terms generally begin in July.

Choose the pathway that best fits the kind of work you want to create. BFA Painting suits students drawn to drawing, color, composition, portraiture, and fine-art practice. BFA Sculpture is suited to students interested in form, materials, casting, carving, and installation. Animation & VFX suits students who want to create characters, stories, moving images, 3D assets, and visual effects.

Coursework combines foundational art skills with specialization-specific practice. Students may study drawing, composition, color theory, art history, aesthetics, material and method, portfolio preparation, and art business. Painting students explore multiple media and painting traditions; sculpture students work with clay, wood, stone, metal, and digital sculpting; animation students learn pre-production, 2D and 3D production, VFX, and software workflows.

Admission to the four-year degree programs is available through the ACAD Entrance Test or portfolio-based early admission followed by a personal interview. The entrance exam form fee is ₹1,000 and includes ACAD Admission Test fees. Applicants should review the relevant program requirements carefully and prepare artwork or portfolio materials that demonstrate their interest, skills, and creative potential.

Yes. Project work, studio assignments, final submissions, and professional presentation are central to the learning experience. Painting and sculpture programs include project and art-business components that address portfolio preparation and presenting work to galleries or museums. Animation & VFX students produce projects such as a complete 3D short film with VFX. The Placement Cell also supports portfolio finalisation and CV creation.
